One cool cat!

OK..First of all I KNOOOOOOW I'm pushing 40!

SHUT. UP.

BUT, no matter HOW old I get I will never release my love for the "Kit" Taaaaay!

I grew up in the 80's era of :

 Hello Kitty,

 Land of the lost,

 and My little pony..

The REAL My Little pony...Not the slutty versions...
P.S..Who the hell's bright idea was it to sexualize My little pony?!

Like, Really?! Why the fake lashes, long porn star hair?!
Who wants a slutty pony?
Don't answer that!

He Might?.... =0

ANYWHO~

So, with me being in paint hibernation helping everyone else..My very first piece out of the cave had to be FUN!
Buck the rules!

So here she is...A Hello Kitty "NERD" Side Table:

She wasn't always this cute though...She used to be "Frumpy Franny!" from the Goodwill..

Just a plain Jane little end table..I was gonna' go the whole "Shabby" route...Old White...some distressing...clear/dark wax yadda yadda...blahblahblah..BORIIINNNNNG but, I said NO!

She needs some COLOR! Also, I had been dying to try out some of the stencils Deborah got in at Peinture
so I got busy painting her in a fun Turquoise (A mix up of Florence, Provence and couple drops of Napoleonic)

Ok. WAIT! Eerrrrrrt! Stop the presses...THESE.ARE.AMAZING! (Said in your DEEPEST Oprah voice)

I found these at Big Lots! (Or "MacFrugals", for you East of the Mississippi folks)

They're "Bed Risers" I have no idea why you wouldn't just buy a friggin' box spring, and  frame for your bed to get it off the floor??! but what.ev's..
I thought nooooooo I can use them to get my pieces off the FLOOR and paint the legs and everything alot better instead of flipping upside down to get to the bottoms...
Worked.like.a.charm!

O.K Sorry for the A.D.D interruption.. So, got here painted up, painted the top in Pure White then realized I didn't get the stencils! So, I did what every good DIY'er does...I turned to YouTube! I found this lady, Amanda  from "Mommy is CooCoo" blog who did THEE most easy to follow video on how to paint chevron stripes like EVERRRR!

I did as she told and Voila'! It turned out amazeballs...

To get the image of Hello Kitty on there, I used my good ole' $20 Overhead projector from Craigslist and a free image of Hello Kitty from Google images printed onto a transparency..Taped down the image..VERY important..the projector heats up AND it has a fan blowing to keep the machine cool at the same time..NOOOO BUENO when you are trying to trace an image onto something and the mother clucker justs drifts off the top of the glass! Ggrrrrrrr...anyway take my word for it..
TAPE THE TRANSPARENCY DOWN.

Lay the piece on it's side..Lay down on your stomach, grab a pencil and LIGHTLY start tracing your out line..It actually doesn't take too long to do!

Once the outline was done, I grabbed a couple small artist brushes a bottle of black Acrylic craft paint and filled in the head and glasses..

Now, for the bow..I did the inside of it with 2 coats of Annie Sloan's Emperor Silk
and don't get me wrong..It looked great but it need a lil sumin' sumin'
So, I poured out about 1/4 cup of Mod Podge, grabbed a bottle of Martha Stewarts teeeeney, tiiiiiiiiiny super fine glitter and dumped like 1/4 of the bottle in there! =0. I wanted glitter damn it! ;]

Well - A glitter bow I do have...Voila!

And there she is folks, in all her feline splendor..

oops! forgot to show ya' the LEOPARD drawers...Meow!

Thanks for stopping by..I am totally addicted to this damn projector now..so I'm sure you'll see more projects using it BUT you have my scouts honor..NO HOOCHIE PONIES!
 hahahahhaha

Smooches,
Mel

Ballard?.....SCHMALLARD!

So.....a few weeks ago, I got an email from a previous customer who had an antique dresser of her grandmother's that  was in great shape BUT she wanted to have it "shabbied" *painted, distressed, waxed and all that good stuff..Their FIRST thought was to go with just a basic antique white..PERFECT! Bring it on over!

SO... I stock up on A.S.C.P Pure White and a can of Old White and was ABOUT to get busy when she texts me that they have changed their mind on color...OOKKKKKK...what did you have in mind? "Well, I emailed you a link to Ballard designs. We found a bed in this color that we love!

We want to see if you can match it?..uuhhh...SURE!
Thee Ballard designs!: The place that sells dog treats for $100 bucks!?@#$%*...
Ballard Designs: the place that sells rugs worth more than my engagement ring?! yikes...
No pressure right?

Replicate Ballard Designs..No PROB!Bring it on...teeheehee...Well, ladies and Gentleman..I was intimidated at first BUT chaknow whaaaaaa' I think I did a prett-ie sweet job..I really like it and I hope you do too...

So...It IS a sweet piece..great scroll work and carvings and awesome hardware.... yum!!

Now, at first glance..I thought the color looked like a dead ringer of Duck Egg Blue BUT, if you look at the picture 38,972 times... *But WHO's counting right?

You see MORE than Duck Egg..It's a very GRAY blue .So I got all "Bill Nye the science guy"

and got busy concocting my "Ballard Blue"

This is at the VERY Beginning of my blend BUT basically it turned out to be 1/2 Paris Gray , 1/2 Provence and a DAB of  Old White by the time I got done!
I did my usual, and turned it upside down 1st to get all the hard to reach bits out of the way..

Painting in the kitchen of course!
*Hey! It was 55 degrees in So Cal...That's INHUMANE conditions to be outside!! ;}

Once the body was done we had to deal with the top... =/

She told me that the body was great BUT it looked like granny momma had been leaving her denture cup on the top of the dresser for 80+ years... =<

It had a pretty gnarly water ring stain... BUT, Restore A Finish to the rescue!

Going

Going...

GONE!

Woohoooo..with THAT done I was able to distress her, and wax her up in clear & dark wax...

and call it a day...

Well there she is..my Ballard knock off...hope you like!
Thanks for stoppin' by...see ya soon!

Smooches...

Mr. Fancy pants~y!

Allow me to introduce you to Mr. Fancy Pants!

Normally, my pieces are girly or feminine..and for some reason, this one seems masculine? Doesn't he look so suave in his shabby turquoise and brass pulls..

The color is ASCP in Provence and about 1 tablespoon of hunter green in....oh LORD...no one tell my stockist....but you know that .79 cent acrylic paint at every Michaels or Hobby Lobby?..American..brand....yea' well, um...I threw a tablespoon of that in there to darken it up..and guess what?!! It friggin' works like a charm bay buh'! So next time you just wanna' tweak it a little and don't want to buy a ten dollar sample pot..head down to Michaels and taste the Rainbow! ;)

So...here are some in progress shots I took..

Here's his BEFORE:

eh'...nice bones..but nothing special..

You all know I luv to paint indoors, again ANOTHER plus of this paint! (LOOOOW Voc's!!)

Once I got him all painted, I applied Clear Wax..

Yes. Those ARE my .99 cent store brushes!
I use those STRICTLY as a one time wax application brush.

While the wax was doing it's thing..I got all "Bill Nye, the Science guy.." I had read once before that a good remedy for cleaning brass was HOT SAUCE..Apparently it has to do with the Vinegar..and know waahh? IT WORKED! Check it out..

I let them soak in a bowl of hot sauce for about 15 mins....

BEFORE:

AND AFTER:

Now, I will add that when I was rinsing the hot sauce off of the handles, I used a balled up piece of aluminum foil to help with the abrasion..They looked fab!

OK, Back to the desk..

I got my curved edge cabinet scraper and got busy chipping it up!

After, I finished all the distressing and chipping I applied Dark wax here, there, and EVERYWHERE!

And, to remove it....just a lil' glob of Clear Wax.

Well, if you do that 472 times..Ya' end up with this... What Cha' think??

and of course...I'm NOTHING without my sidekick assistant...Mr. Fancy Pants himself...

Thanks for stopping by...
